Dr. Jim and Jill Wilkins of Michigan registered this cultivar in 1989 as a seedling of H. 'Gold Regal'. It is a medium size (18 inches high by 42 inches wide) hosta with purple flowers in July. The flower scapes are about 30 inches tall followed by viable seeds.

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "A superb hosta...Considerably smaller than its parent and a much brighter color."
