Hosta 'Tyre'

Registered by Alex Malloy of New York in 2005, this small size (9 inches high by 17 inches wide) cultivar is a seedling of H. 'Loleta Powell'. It has narrow, green foliage with white streaked variegation. The leaves are ovate, round at the base and shiny on top. Lavender flowers bloom from late July into August on scapes about 18 inches tall followed by streaked seed pods.

Tyre is an ancient Phoenician port city which, in myth, is known as the birthplace of Europa who gave Europe its name. It is also the British term for "tire" as in the rubber things we put on car wheels.
