Originated by
Marco
and Joyce Fransen of the
Netherlands, this non-registered cultivar is a sport of H.
'Chōkō
Nishiki' (formerly H. 'On Stage'). This is a large size hosta with heart shape
green foliage. The leaves have thick substance and are
moderately wavy, slightly corrugated and dull on top.
Pale lavender, tubular flowers with lighter lavender
margins bloom in July.
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful.
