This seedling of H. longipes from an unidentified
originator in Japan was registered by
Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar) in 2009
and
re-registered
with new data in
2018. It is a large size (22
inches high by 64 inches wide) plant with green foliage that has
greenish yellow marginal variegation. The leaves are slightly
rippled, ovate, wavy, slightly shiny on top
and have smooth texture. Medium purple flowers bloom on scapes
about 30 inches tall in
September. Seed set was not known at the time of registration.
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful.
