A hybrid of H. 'Tardiflora' × H. ventricosa, this cultivar was originated by
Georg Ahrends in
Germany
in 1911.
Peter Ruh of Ohio registered it on Arends' behalf in 1992. It forms a large size
plant about 19 inches high by 48 inches wide. The leaves are
medium green in color and have a narrowly ovate shape. They are
wavy and have smooth texture. Medium purple flowers bloom from
mid-August into September.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...one of the earliest hosta hybrids in cultivation outside of
east Asia...does not at all resemble 'Tardiflora' or H.
ventricosa in foliage or flower...can easily be mistaken for
H. 'Lancifolia'. "
