This non-registered cultivar of
the H. longipes type
originated by Kenji Watanabe of the Gotemba Nursery in
Japan. It is a
medium size plant with green foliage that has creamy yellow
marginal variegation with some streaks in the center. It has
purple red petioles. Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki
as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e. something colorful and beautiful and the term yama as mountain.
