Hosta 'Sunrise'

This is one of those cases where there are two hostas with the same name. One is registered and, therefore, the "official" version of H. 'Sunrise' while the other is a non-registered plant and needs to be renamed to avoid further confusion.

Registered by Randy Goodwin of Indiana in 2018, this medium size (12 inches high by 24 inches wide) cultivar is a sport of H. 'Forest Paintbrush'. It has dark green foliage with yellow marginal variegation.

The leaves are nearly round, heavily corrugated, moderately cupped, folded, slightly wavy and slightly shiny on top and bottom. Medium lavender flowers with distinct stripes bloom from mid-June into August on scapes 12 to 24 inches tall followed by viable seeds.

The registration materials state: "...consistent yellow margin for the entire growing season (unlike its predecessors)..."

Originated by Alex Malloy of New York, this non-registered cultivar is a seedling of H. 'Miss Susie'. It is a small size hosta with bright gold colored foliage that has red petioles.
