Originated by
Alex Summers of Delaware, this non-registered cultivar is of unidentified parentage. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "origin:
H. longipes latifolia or
H. rupifraga
background probably out of 'Urajiro Hachijo'...impressive
foliage and tremendous flowers..." It is a small to
medium size hosta with dark green foliage that is shiny
and slightly wavy. The flowers are pale lavender in
color. Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term urajiro as white-backed or white underside.
There is a
cultivar named H. 'Summer
Gift'.
