Bob Solberg of Green Hill Farm in North Carolina crossed H. 'Iron Gate Supreme' × H. 'Saishu Jima' to
create this cultivar which he registered in 1996. It grows to
about 15 inches high with a width of 30 inches. The leaves are
elliptical, have wavy margins, smooth texture and average
substance. They bear fragrant, purple flowers in August.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...combines the variegation of
'Iron Gate Supreme' with the leaf characteristics and mound
habits of 'Saishu Jima'. Add fragrant flowers to that and the
result is a superior cultivar that should be more widely grown."
In an article in
The
Hosta Journal (2016 Vol. 47 No 2), the author
described this plant's flowers as having a "Weak"
fragrance compared to other hostas.
