Bob Solberg of Green Hill Farm in North Carolina registered this H. 'Francee' seedling in 2005. It is a medium size (16 inches high by 45
inches wide) with medium to dark green foliage that
has a narrow, white medial (center) variegation. The
leaves are ovate, slightly cupped and have deep
veins. Pale
lavender flowers bloom in clusters from late June into July.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "As one of the host world's leading hybridizers, Bob
Solberg often bucks trends and traditional thought. After all,
how many hosta breeders think of 'Francee' as a breeding plant?
How about the one from Green Hill Farm in North Carolina !" From the
Field Guide to Hostas by Mark Zilis (2014), "This is one that should be on everyone's favorites list."
This cultivar was winner of the
Benedict
Garden Performance Medal for 2019.
