This cultivar from
Mildred
Seaver of Massachusetts is a seedling
selection of unidentified parentage which was registered on her
behalf in 2009 by
Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar). It grows into a giant size hosta about 34 inches in height
with a spread of around 51 inches. The foliage is heavily corrugated, broadly ovate and with
thick substance. Its near white flowers bloom from late
June into July and then set viable seeds.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Mildred Seaver once commented to
me that 'Sea Blue Leather' was a significant improvement on 'Sea
Blue', an earlier introduction."
The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Slow to increase...Pruinose bloom soon fades from
the upper leaf surface, leaving a pronounced leathery texture."
