Walters Gardens,
Inc. of Michigan and
Clarence (C.H.) Falstad, III of Michigan introduced this cultivar which is noted for its
fragrant, "extra" double flowers which bloom in August. It is a variegated sport of H. 'Royal
Standard' which forms
a medium size (15 inches high) mound of slightly corrugated foliage.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...it has difficulty reaching a
mature size. Most specimens seem stunted, often reaching no more
than 8" or 10" high...Besides being reluctant to bloom, the
flowers of 'Royal Super' tend to be inconsistent, sometimes
double, sometimes semi-double."
