This is an
open-pollinated seedling of H. ventricosa 'Aureomaculata' that was registered by
Mark Zilis of Illinois in 1988. It is a
miniature size hosta with yellow gold foliage which
maintains its color throughout the season. This cultivar
is considered a slow i.e. poor growing hosta.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Out of thousands of H. ventricosa 'Aureomaculata' seeds
I germinated in 1985, only one had gold
foliage...Unfortunately, I registered it before I had
fully assessed it. While it is attractive in small
containers, it shows very little vigor in the garden."
