This is a form of the species
H. longipes latifolia from
Japan. It
becomes a medium size mound that grows to about 17 inches in
height and 42 inches wide. The leaves are slightly puckered at
the base, are lightly rippled and have a long, curved tip. The
petioles are purplish red and the flowers which bloom in
September are medium purple.
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term iwa as rock, Iwa Gibōshi or
H. longipes and the term ogon or oogon as gold or yellow. |
