This
cultivar appeared on a list from the
Hosta Library. There was no picture included. This non-registered cultivar was
originated by
Alex Malloy of New York. It is a sport of H.
'Chōkō
Nishiki' (formerly H. 'On Stage'). The leaves on this large size hosta have
thick substance and are moderately wavy, slightly
corrugated and dull on top. Pale lavender, tubular
flowers with lighter lavender margins bloom in July.
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful.
