Hosta 'Maddren'

This upright, giant size (32 inches high by 55 inches wide) hybrid of H. 'Sieboldiana' x an unidentified hosta was registered by Madelon Gilligan of New Zealand in 2012. The foliage is intensely blue-green, broadly ovate, slightly corrugated, slightly wavy and glaucous on top. Its petioles are large, strong and arching. Pale lavender, tubular flowers with darker stripes bloom in New Zealand from December into February. This would equate to around June into July into the Northern Hemisphere. Noted for heavy flower production and sets viable seeds.

Although a Google search came up with several people with this name, we suspect that it is in reference to Tim Maddren, a New Zealand musician best known as a member of the Australian children's musical group Hi-5.
