W. George Schmid in his
Hosta Species Update on The Hosta
Library (2006) calls this a yellow-centered sport of
H. montana
found in the wilds of Japan. The center is bright
yellow in the spring but fades to whitish as the season progresses.
H. kiyosumiensis medio-picta and H. kiyosumiensis
‘Busen’ are incorrect names for this plant but H. 'Busen'
may be used.
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term kinakafu or ki nakifu as yellow-center(ed).
