This non-registered
cultivar from
Japan is of "uncertain" parentage. It
forms a small size, dense mound of light gold foliage.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "..."Akikaze" is the Japanese name for H.
'Lancifolia'. Thus, the plant should have a
gold-margined, green-centered, lance shaped foliage. The
small, gold-leaved plant...is most likely a seedling of
H. sieboldii and is somewhat akin to 'Subcrocea'."
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term kifukurin or ki fukurin as yellow edge(d) or
yellow margin(ed).
