In The Genus HOSTA by W. George Schmid (1991), this cultivar is listed with no additional information except that it was No. 108 on the hosta list of Alex Summers of Delaware in 1963. 'July Gold' is credited to "Lewis" as the originator. We think this refers to Alan Lewis of England.
