A medium size (11 inches
high) hosta, this cultivar is a
seedling of H. 'Shunko Nishiki' which was registered in 2001 by
Clarence
Owens of Michigan. It has gold colored foliage
that is shiny on top and heavily rippled. Lavender,
spider shaped flowers bloom from late July into August
on scapes about 16 inches tall. Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful.
