This is a
tetraploid form of H. longipes which originated from
Dr.
Shuichi Hirao of
Japan. It was
registered by
Peter Ruh of Ohio in 1997. It forms a mound of dark, shiny foliage
about 12 inches tall with a spread of 38 inches. Pale lavender
flowers bloom in September.
This cultivar is part of the "Hirao
Series" of hostas. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...the foliage is narrower than most H. longipes forms."
