This is
tetraploid hosta of uncertain background was originated from
Dr.
Shuichi Hirao of
Japan. It was
registered by
Peter Ruh of Ohio in 1997.
This small size mound of dark, shiny foliage grows
about 12 inches tall with a spread of 30 inches. Its petioles
have purple dots. Medium purple flowers bloom from mid-August
into September.
This cultivar is part of the "Hirao
Series" of hostas. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...long known to hosta collectors as 'Hirao Tet' or 'Hirao
Tetra'...original plant came from Dr. Hirao to the U.S. in the
1970s..."
