Originated in Japan, this non-registered cultivar is a sport of
H. longipes. This is a small size hosta with
green foliage that has a chartreuse medial (center)
variegation in the spring which changes to green later
in the season. The leaves are slightly shiny, slightly
wavy and have thick substance.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...literally means "streaked sunrise"."Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful. |
