There is an image of this
cultivar on the
Hosta Library. From the photo on the HL website, it
appears to be a miniature to small size, very upright
hosta with green leaves and creamy yellow to white
medial (center) variegation. It is considered
to be a sport of
H. montana
with open funnel
shaped, very pale lavender flowers in July with bracts on the
flower scape.
This non-registered cultivar was originated by
Kenji Watanabe of
Gotemba Nursery in Japan.
Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful.
The
name translates to "First Snowing Brocade" in English.
