This seedling of
H.
pycnophylla is from
Japan. It was originated by
Kenji
Watanabe and registered by
Peter Ruh of Ohio in 2002. It is a medium
size plant that grows about 16 inches high with a spread of
around 34 inches. The medium green foliage is intensely rippled,
ovate and have a very thick underside bloom with purple red
petioles. Medium purple flowers bloom from late August into
September.

The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...impressed with its rippling and intensely white underside."
"Hakuyo
Gibōshi, the "white-backed hosta" is a medium size hybrid with H.
longipes var. hypoglauca ancestry. It has small white-backed oval
leaves and purple spots on the petiole."
