This seedling selection was
originated by
Hajime Sugita of Japan and was
registered by
Peter Ruh of Ohio on his behalf in 2001. It grows
into a large size hosta about 2 feet tall and
spreads out over 4 feet wide. The heavily corrugated foliage is
broadly ovate in shape and is somewhat cupped with thick
substance. It bears very pale lavender flowers from late June into July.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...from seed that
Hajime Sugita
of Okazaki,
Japan had sent to Pete in 1986. 'Grover Cleveland',
named for the 22nd & 24th President of the U.S., was one of
those seedlings. In the garden it matures as a striking, large size mound of rich blue foliage."
Stephen Grover Cleveland was the 22nd (1885
to 1889) and 24th (1893 to
1897) President of the United States.
