This cultivar is a
seedling of H. 'Great Plains' × a seedling H. 'Sea Prize' which was registered by
Olga Petryszyn of Indiana
in 2009.
A giant size plant, 'Gotham' grows to around 32 inches
in height with a spread of about 56 inches. The leaves
are intensely blue-green but turn to dark green later in
the season. Its foliage is broadly ovate and moderately
corrugated with thick bloom on the bottom. Bell-shaped
flowers bloom in July. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "This will probably be considered another hosta classic
from Olga Petryszyn in a few years. It not only offers
richly colored foliage, attractive rippling and thick
substance, but a large size and distinctly upright habit
as well."
