Originated by Paul Aden of Garden of Aden in New York, this non-registered cultivar is of unidentified parentage.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "I've never seen 'Golden Ventricosa' in a garden or on a nursery list...There are, however, a few gold-leaved sports and seedlings of Hosta ventricosa including 'Taiwan', 'Peking', 'Holly's Gold', and 'Crystal Fountain'."
