Loleta Powell
of Powell's Iris Haven in North Carolina, this cultivar which is a hybrid of
H. 'Puckered Giant' x H. 'Elegans'. It was
registered on her behalf by
Kevin Walek (Hosta Registrar) in 2009.
'Gallant Heart' grows
into a giant size hosta about 36 inches in height with a spread of
66 inches. The blue-green foliage is heavily corrugated and
unruly with thick substance. It turns dark green later in the
season. Very pale lavender flowers bloom from late June into July and then sets viable
seeds. According to the registration materials:
"Rich bluish-green color, very cupped & puckered leaves that are exactly
heart-shaped. Loleta named this cultivar on 8-29-88 and listed it for sale
Fall-1988."
