According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...was known as 'Emerald Island' when introduced to the nursery trade in the late 1990s. To avoid any confusion with 'Emerald Isle', the name was changed to 'Emerald Ruff Cut' when registered in 2003."
