This cultivar is a form
of Hosta 'Fortunei Aureomarginata' that originated in Europe and was introduce in the U.S. trade by
Paul Ellerbroek of West Des Moines, Iowa. It was registered in
1996 by Peter Ruh of Ohio on behalf of Ellerbroek and Dr. Nils Hylander of Sweden.
'Ellerbrooek' is a medium to large size plant with pale lavender flowers from late July into August.
An article titled Too Many Lookalikes by
Bob Keller in
The
Hosta Journal (2010 Vol. 41 No. 2) states that, "There
are other examples of lookalikes being registered. H. 'Ellerbroek' and 'Fortunei Aureomarginata'
are nearly identical in my view..."
