This cultivar was registered in
1990 by
Eldren
Minks of Fairway Enterprises in Minnesota as a hybrid of H. 'Carol' × H. 'Fortunei Aureomarginata'. It grows about 24 inches in height
with a width of 57 inches. The leaves are dark green with a
greenish yellow marginal variegation. They are slightly
corrugated and of average substance. Pale lavender flowers bloom
from late July into August. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Though registered as a hybrid, 'Crown Royalty' is more
likely a sport out of 'Fortunei Aureomarginata'. It resembles
the latter closely in every characteristic except margin color."
