Hosta 'Crown Jewel'

A 1984 introduction by Walters Gardens, Inc. of Michigan, this miniature cultivar has chartreuse leaves with white margins. The funnel shaped lavender flowers are borne on a 10 inch scape from June into July. It is a sport of H. 'Gold Drop'.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Historically, 'Crown Jewel' ranks as one of the first hosta sports from tissue culture propagation. It appeared in cultures of 'Gold Drop' in the late 1970s at Walters Gardens...Unfortunately, it is not a very good plant. The margins are thin, often causing them to rip and tear."
