Hosta 'Calico Cat'

This is one of those cases where there are two hostas with the same name. One is registered (shown above) and, therefore, the "official" version of H. 'Calico Cat' while the other is a non-registered plant and needs to be renamed to avoid future confusion.

Dr. Dick and Jane Ward of Ohio registered this cultivar as a seedling of H. 'Hearts and Flowers' in 2015. The medium size plant (16 inches high by 29 inches wide) has medium green foliage with yellow streaked variegation. Its leaves are slightly rippled, broadly ovate and dull on top. Near white flowers bloom from late June into July. It sets seeds but their viability was not known at the time of registration.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'Calico Cat' (Ward)

This cultivar of unidentified parentage is not-registered but credited to Robyn Duback of Washington and Ran Lydell of Cooks Nursery and Eagle Bay Gardens in New York. It forms a small to medium size mound of streaked foliage.

Hosta Helper will call this plant 'Calico Cat' (Duback)

We do not know which cultivar was represented above but in either case, it appears to have reverted to the all blue-green base color.
