This non-registered cultivar is a sport of H. 'Blue
Mammoth' from
Bud Martin of Georgia. It forms a medium size hosta
about 14 inches high by 39 inches wide with dark green
foliage that has a white medial (center) variegation.
The leaves are narrowly ovate and slightly wavy. Pale
lavender flowers bloom in July. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "I've now seen specimens in two different gardens and
neither resembles what a sport of 'Blue Mammoth' should
be. The foliage was definitely
Fortunei -like...Both were
dead ringers for 'Night before Christmas'. A true
white-centered sport of 'Blue Mammoth' should display at
least 14 vein pairs, a thick underside bloom, and
near-white flowers from mid-June into July." |
