The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), says that this plant falls into a category of
"cultivars that exhibit many
Tardiana traits but are
not a part of Eric Smith's original group."
This cultivar is a hybrid of H. 'Blue Diamond' and a
Tardiana-type
seedling that was registered in 1987 by
Dr. Ralph (Herb) Benedict of Michigan. It forms a medium size mound of foliage that has a thick
substance and comes to a tip.
According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Its name is derived from its early blooming time,
perhaps one of the earliest for Tardiana type cultivars."
Seedlings of this cultivar include H. 'Starry
Starry Night'.
