As a seedling of ‘Halcyon,’
‘Blue Challenger’ (Rawson NR) emerges in spring as a
blue-green hosta. However, by the first or second week
of June, 'Blue Challenger' will knock your socks off by
turning an awesome blue, blue color. Visitors often
gravitate toward this one because it is the very bluest
hosta in my garden, even bluer than ‘Halcyon.’
In size and physical characteristics, slightly larger
than ‘Halcyon’ (3’
wide) with very lightly puckered heart-shaped leaves.
‘Blue Challenger’ needs some afternoon shade to preserve
its frosty blue, blue color. Parentage: 'Halcyon'
