This
cultivar is a seedling of a
Tardiana-type
hosta and was registered in 2003 by
Peter and Jean
Ruh of Ohio on behalf of the originator,
Heinz Klose of
Staudengärtnerei Klose in Germany. It develops into a large size plant
about 19 inches high by 44 inches wide with powdery,
blue-green foliage. The leaves are moderately wavy,
slightly corrugated and have thick substance. Pale
lavender flowers in clusters bloom during in August. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...may be the most common of Heinz Klose's blue-leaved
Tardiana introductions. It may also be the bluest and
rivals the best of
Eric Smith's Tardianas for foliage
color and overall mound appearance. The name "blaufink"
translates to 'blue finch"."
