Florence Shaw of Massachusetts originated this cultivar as part of her "Birchwood" series and it was registered by
The American Hosta Society
on her behalf in 1986. It is a large size (24 inches high) mound of heavily corrugated
foliage with dense clusters of near white flowers from late June into July. According to
The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), it is "...same
H. 'Sieboldiana'
origin as 'Birchwood
Elegance', probably a sibling...Eldren
Minks once demonstrated the great substance of 'Birchwood
Green' by balancing a coffee cup on one of its leaves."
The Genus Hosta
by W.
George Schmid (1991) says that this is the result of a cross of
H. 'Sieboldiana' ×
H. 'FRW
No. 382'
