This seedling of H. montana 'Chōkō Nishiki' is a non-registered
cultivar from Doyle Woods of Iowa. It grows into a medium size hosta about 15 inches high with a
spread of 51 inches. The foliage is medium gold in color with
light corrugation and thick substance. Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term nishiki as brocade (rich-colored woven fabric) i.e.
something colorful and beautiful.
