A hybrid of H. 'Sea Prize' × H. 'Chirifu Oba', this cultivar was
registered by
Dr. Ed Elslager of Michigan in 2002. The giant size mound grows to 27
inches in height with a spread of 66 inches. Its medium green
leaves are heavily streaked with a creamy white medial (center)
variegation. The leaves are deeply lobed at the base, slightly
corrugated and wavy with good substance. It bears pale lavender
flowers from mid-July into August. Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled,
A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term chirifu
as speckled, mottled or overall variegated and the term oba or ooba as large leaf, 'Oba Gibōshi' or
H. montana.
