This cultivar is a sport of H. 'Aomori Gold Star' which was registered by Mark Zilis of Illinois in 2009. This upright growing plant is a medium size about 18 inches high with a spread of 40 inches. The medium green leaves are ovate and slightly shiny on top. Purple flowers bloom from mid-July into August. It sets viable seeds. 'Aomori Select' is similar to the species H. rectifolia.
