Hosta 'Americana'

This cultivar was registered in 2006 by Walters Gardens, Inc. of Michigan. It is a sport of H. 'Loyalist' which grows into a medium size hosta about 14 inches high by 24 inches wide. The leaves are slightly twisted, broadly ovate and come to a distinct tip. Pale lavender flowers bloom from July into August on scapes about 20 inches tall.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), it "...differs from its mother plant by its wide, green margin and extremely narrow, creamy yellow to white center;..."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "The central variegation does not "melt out." Divide regularly to retain the unusual variegation...eye-catching flaring variegation at the center of the leaf."
