						  This dramatic gold hosta was
				registered by
Paul Aden of New York in 1986 as a cross between
						H. 'Aden
						No. 217' × H. 'Aden
						No. 219.
The actual originator of this hosta is unknown. It
is a large size (28 inches high by 70 inches wide) plant that is often used effectively as a specimen
				or focal point.

The foliage is slightly corrugated, distinctly wavy and curved at the tip with
good substance. Its flowers are pale lavender and borne in July
on tall (36 inches) scapes but it is sterile and does not set
				seeds.

				 According to
				The Hostapedia by
Mark Zilis (2009), "Since its introduction in the
mid-1980s, 'Sun Power' has achieved widespread popularity and is
now one of the most recognized cultivars. Though its reputation
as a sun-tolerant hosta has been much exaggerated, 'Sun Power'
offers distinctive, bright gold foliage. A properly placed
				single specimen will be attention-getting."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by
				Diana
Grenfell (2009) states: "Achieves its best color early and holds it until
frosts occur...Becomes much larger given optimum growing
conditions...A classic hosta...In late summer the paler colored
petiole seems to dramatically pierce the brassy golden leaf
				blade."

This cultivar was winner of the
Benedict Garden
Performance Medal for 2016.

In an article about hybridizing by
Tony Avent in
			The
Hosta Journal (1996 Vol. 27 No. 1),  Tony gives the
following comments on cultivars he has introduced: "H. 'Abba Dabba Do' - a great
gold margined sport of H. 'Sun Power'. ..very sun tolerant...makes a grand old
clump."

Tony also gives the
following comments on cultivars he has introduced:  "...H. 'Outhouse Delight' is our biggest breakthrough, followed by H. 'Elvis Lives'. I am real
excited about a coming introduction, H. 'Old Yeller', a cross with
H. yingeri
and H. 'Sun Power'...pretty incredible...brilliant unique golden color, ruffled
leaves, yinger-like flowers...takes full sun...Oh, Baby!"
